8-Hour Quake Concert Held in Hong Kong

The entire showbiz community of Hong Kong on Sunday staged another fund-raising concert for victims of the Sichuan earthquake.

An eight-hour-long concert, the largest ever charity show in the city, was held on Sunday in the Pop TV Arena in west Kowloon.

More than 20 entertainment industry guilds and major TV stations in Hong Kong teamed up to organize the event, which saw 200-plus stars from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Chinese mainland performing.

Reports said 20,000 people paid a minimum donation of 20 Hong Kong dollars to see the concert. Donations also poured in from TV viewer through dedicated hotlines.

All proceeds from the show will be donated to quake funds, said Gordon Chan, who initiated the event along with Jackie Chan and Andy Lau. In fact, Jackie Chan gave the show its theme: "Rebuilding homes."

"The damage caused by the quake doesn't pose a problem. We're holding the concert to aid the rebuilding of affected areas in the following seven or eight years. Quake-hit areas need consistent help from the entire country," Jackie Chan said.
