Wang LeeHom, who has consistently played with a combination of Chinese and Western influence in his music, creates his own style of Chinese "rock 'n' roll" in his new song, 搖滾怎麼了!! [Yao Gun Zen Me Le!!] [What Happened To Rock 'n' Roll?!] In the MV, popular host Janet and he play the pipa* and the electric guitar "at" each other vigorously. The two worked together for 24 hours; afterwards, LeeHom asked Janet if filming a MV was harder than climbing 玉山 YuShan (the Jade Mountain). He did not expect her to reply, "I would rather climb the 玉山 YuShan (Jade Mountain) again!"
Electric Guitar Brings Out 山水畫 Shan Shui Hua (Chinese Landscape Painting)
In addition to inviting Janet to appear in his MV, playing the pipa, LeeHom spent $300,000 NTD for a new custom-made electric guitar. He hired a traditional Chinese painting master to paint a mountain-and-water landscape of splash-ink and color on the body of his guitar. However, because the guitar was made of wood, it was very difficult to achieve the splash-ink effect. The Chinese painting master wound up painting-- in total-- 20 layers of ink, paint, and protective lacquer; it was a lot of work!
The posters he shot for his upcoming concert tour featured a "Bahamut" dragon* guitar; it is rumored that the guitar was created, however, through Photoshop and other computer special effects. Yesterday, though, LeeHom reassured the press firmly that the new Chinese Landscape Electric Guitar was definitely real, and that the "Bahamut" dragon guitar would make appearances at the concerts on the 19th and the 20th.
